Joshua 24 – What does it mean to serve the Lord “in sincerity and faithfulness”?
The final chapter of Joshua serves as a powerful summary of God’s long and faithful relationship with His people, a story that stretches back to Terah, the father of Abraham. While the audience was undoubtedly familiar with this history, Joshua intentionally recounted how God revealed Himself through acts of protection, guidance, and provision—especially during the darkest moments of their journey, such as their time as runaway slaves. This retelling of their shared history inspired the people to fully commit themselves to God, commemorating their covenant at Shechem.
When I reflect on the difficult seasons in my own life, they are often tied to times of transition. It’s easy to focus on the challenges I’ve faced, the lessons I’ve learned, and the goals I’ve achieved. But it takes a deliberate effort to look beyond my own hard work and recognize God’s hand at work alongside me. Sometimes, it’s a friend or mentor who helps me see what only God could have done—those moments that were far beyond my own capable hands.
When I take the time to acknowledge that it wasn’t just me striving, pushing, or holding on, but that God was right there with me, my faith deepens. These moments of reflection, gratitude, and renewed commitment to my faith prepare me for the next season—one that may be filled with its own hardships, uncertainties, and opportunities for growth.
I am continually amazed that God chooses, day after day, to walk with us through our struggles, pouring out immeasurable grace—even when we fail to notice it. And so, I am profoundly grateful for those times when, looking back, I can clearly see that God was there, is here now, and will always be with me.
