Genesis 1 – What does this chapter reveal about God’s power and creativity?
God decides to create our world entirely out of God’s own will. It is not forced, accidental, or inevitable—it happens simply because God wants it to. I imagine God truly enjoying this DIY project, pausing after each step to admire the work, seeing how good it is, and then moving on to the next stage. There is a sense of joy in the process, a playful exploration as creation unfolds. God takes time to examine and celebrate the divine work, watching plants sprout and bud, the atmosphere fill with oxygen, and the stage set for all the moving and breathing creatures to come. It must have been a feast of colors, sounds, smells, and textures, alive with motion and constant change.
When God creates us in God’s image, we inherit that same joy and excitement for the things we create and discover. Whether it’s preparing a flavorful and colorful meal for my family or savoring the first bite together, that sense of wonder and delight is God-given. Through our own acts of creation, big or small, we are reminded of God’s love for the process and the beauty of calling it all “very good.”
“Creative Spirit of God, let me today find joy in making something with my hands, noticing something new, learning something exciting about our world!”
